This calculator uses the US Navy circumference equation (Hodgdon and Beckett), with height, neck, waist and, for women, hip measured in centimetres. It is a tape-measure estimate, not a medical measurement, and it can be off by several percentage points. It is not the US Army's current test: since June 2024 the Army's official tape method measures the abdomen only (ALARACT 053/2024). For best consistency, measure on bare skin at the same time of day.
