A discount is a reduction from the original (MRP) price of a product. Understanding how to calculate discounts helps you compare deals, find the best sale price, and avoid misleading "offers" that are not actually discounts.
Discount Amount = Original Price × Discount% ÷ 100
Sale Price = Original Price − Discount Amount
Discount % = (Original Price − Sale Price) ÷ Original Price × 100
| Original Price | Discount % | You Save | Sale Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹1,000 | 10% | ₹100 | ₹900 |
| ₹2,500 | 25% | ₹625 | ₹1,875 |
| ₹5,000 | 40% | ₹2,000 | ₹3,000 |
| ₹10,000 | 50% | ₹5,000 | ₹5,000 |
| ₹15,000 | 70% | ₹10,500 | ₹4,500 |
In India, Under section 15(3) of the CGST Act, a discount given before or at the time of supply and recorded on the invoice is excluded from the value for GST, so GST applies on the discounted price. Discounts given after the supply follow separate conditions in section 15(3), which this calculator does not cover, so check them with a tax adviser. For example, a ₹1,000 product with 20% discount and 18% GST: Sale price = ₹800, GST = ₹144, Final price = ₹944.
