How to Calculate Time Duration

Time duration is the difference between a start time and end time. For same-day durations, simply subtract. For overnight (crossing midnight) durations — like night shifts — add 24 hours to the end time before subtracting.

How do I calculate night shift hours that cross midnight?
Select "Crosses Midnight" in the calculator. The tool adds 24 hours to the end time before computing the difference. For a shift from 10 PM to 6 AM: (6:00 + 24:00) − 22:00 = 8 hours.
How many minutes are in 2.5 hours?
2.5 hours = 2 hours and 30 minutes = 150 minutes total. Multiply decimal hours by 60 to get minutes: 0.5 × 60 = 30 minutes.
