India does not have a US-style 401(k). This calculator is a simple retirement corpus projection for a salaried person who puts a percentage of basic salary into a retirement account such as EPF or NPS, with an employer contribution on top. Each year it adds your contribution and the employer contribution, applies the return you enter, and raises salary by the yearly increase you enter. Contributions are treated as paid at the start of each year and the return is applied once a year.
Returns, contribution rules, tax treatment and withdrawal rules differ between EPF, NPS and other schemes and change over time. This page does not state them. Use the official EPFO and PFRDA sources for current rules, and the NPS calculator on this site for NPS exit rules.
