How to Add or Subtract Time

Adding time: convert to total minutes, add, then convert back. Example: 2h 45m + 3h 30m = 165 min + 210 min = 375 min = 6 hours 15 minutes.

Subtracting time: same process. 7h 15m − 2h 45m = 435 min − 165 min = 270 min = 4 hours 30 minutes. If start time is later than end time (crossing midnight), add 1440 minutes (24 hours) before subtracting.

How many hours is a standard work day in India?

Under the Factories Act 1948, the standard work day in India is 9 hours (including breaks), with a maximum of 48 hours per week. IT/services companies typically follow 8-9 hour shifts. With the new Labour Codes, states can allow 12-hour shifts for 4 days/week (48 hours), with 3 days off.

How to convert minutes to hours and minutes?

Divide total minutes by 60. The quotient is hours, the remainder is minutes. Example: 195 minutes ÷ 60 = 3 hours (quotient) and 15 minutes (remainder: 195 − 3×60 = 15). So 195 minutes = 3 hours 15 minutes.

What is the formula for calculating time duration?

Duration = End Time − Start Time (in minutes). Convert both times to minutes from midnight: 09:30 = 9×60+30 = 570 min; 17:45 = 17×60+45 = 1065 min. Duration = 1065−570 = 495 min = 8 hours 15 minutes. For overnight: add 1440 to end time before subtracting.
